+ Check out these 5 Tips for Designing a New Restaurant

  1. FIND A SPACE WITH CHARACTER When searching for a space, keep an eye out for architectural elements such as exposed brick walls, exposed ceilings, and concrete flooring. These timeless features offer built-in texture and drama, including polished concrete floors are inexpensive, durable and look great. A great space is half of your atmosphere making designing easier.
  2. TAKING OVER AN EXISTING RESTAURANT SAVES BUILDING COST Save money on design and construction by starting with a space that’s already a restaurant. Preferably the fit out should already include restrooms and a kitchen in good condition. You will save on time and cost by simplifying the construction and building permit process. It sounds obvious but even with concessions from landlords but new restaurant construction from scratch is costly.
  3. GREAT RESTAURANT DESIGN STARTS WITH A SOLID CONCEPT Having a solid design concept avoids hodgepodge design. Using other restaurants as inspiration helps you understand what works and why. Not sure about design details? A good rule of thumb is to keep the design simple and allow the space to be a backdrop for your delicious food.
  4. CONSTRAINTS ARE GOOD IN RESTAURANT DESGN Our design process is guided by constraints: whether it is budget, schedule, or an architectural element. Take the column, which can’t be removed. At Galeto Brazilian Steakhouse in Oakland, we used the columns to support bar shelving. Limitations provide opportunities for creativity in layout, seating and storage solutions.
  5. NEED HELP? HIRE A DESIGNER If you’re struggling with the with design and the construction process, then hiring a restaurant design professional is the way to go. Contractors work best, and stay within budget most, when using detailed design and construction drawings created by a designer. A good designer will facilitate the design process by considering your budget, schedule and create the right environment for you. Also, designers have a vested interest in making your space look amazing.
